Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board

About us

Internal Drainage Boards (IDBs) operate in the low lying fen and valley areas, maintaining pumping stations and drainage channels to ensure that people are safe and the risk of flooding is greatly reduced.

Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board (LMDB) covers an area of 52,757ha that stretches from Gibraltar Point in the south to Cleethorpes in the North and back to the Lincolnshire Wolds and, with a small focussed team, maintains 938km of watercourse and operates 30 pumping stations. We deliver sustainable, efficient and cost effective water level management for the benefit and protection of people, property, business, land and the environment.

With very low lying land most of the tops of our watercourses are at or close to sea level and without the work of the Board most of the land would either be flooded or seasonally waterlogged. Regular watercourse maintenance enables our systems to protect people, property, land and infrastructure.

Powers under the Land Drainage Act 1991 and the Flood and Water Management Act 2010 enable LMDB and its partners to ensure proper drainage is considered by all developers, land owners and home owners/occupiers.

Local knowledge is an important element to delivering effective water level management solutions. Working with the community, we ensure the right level of protection is achieved and maintained within our area of responsibility.
