Lindsey Marsh Drainage Board

Reforming Works

LMDB - Reforming Works

A programme of reforming works is planned for the year at a cost of £383,000. Reforming involves re-profiling of the banks and removal of silt from the bed of the watercourse to return it to its original design storage capacity. Low level undulating berms are installed where practical to provide additional storage but also to enhance biodiversity by providing a corridor for wildlife.

The heavy rainfall last year caused an increase in the number of slips in the banks of watercourses throughout the Board’s area. Repairs are ongoing to ensure that the flow of water is not restricted.

This work avoids damage to reeds on the banks of the watercourse ensuring minimal disruption to wildlife and habitat. The work is undertaken with the consent of the relevant environmental authorities and after a full survey by the Board’s Environmental Officer.
